Tomorrow, the inaugural Sunday Zine Club jam starts.
You've been watching me make zines every Sunday morning for a while now. I want you to make a zine, too. Don't worry; you'll have more time than I give myself. The jam starts tomorrow, Sunday, at 10am Pacific time. The deadline is four Sundays later, August 25th, at 10am.
I love doing jams. There's a theme and a deadline. It helps to focus my attention and spurs me on to get something done.
On itch.io, most of the jams are game jams. Which, fair—it started as a website to host video games. But itch has grown so much since then, and now hosts physical tabletop games, and books, and most importantly of course, my zines. I've done a number of game jams; just this month I made this little storytelling game for the Queer Joy jam.
But there are never enough zine jams on the calendar. And I've heard them say that if you build it, they will come.
In order to participate in Sunday Zine Club, you only need to do two things:
- create a profile on itch.io
- make and upload a zine before August 25
That's it! Oh, and the theme is POOL.
On tomorrow's stream, I'll be making my own submission for the jam. I haven't decided yet if I wanna take my time with this one, maybe make something bigger than my regular 8-page minizine. I've got 4 weeks after all.
But I've also got this idea to make a zine ABOUT jams, kind of a how-to guide, and maybe even a template or workbook. So that might be tomorrow's zine instead, and I'll give myself some more time to think about pools. (I tried to go swimming at my parents's house during my mid-week weekend, but the pool is having some problems staying up lol.)
I can't wait to see what you make. Oh, and by the way, we're gonna do this again. If you've got a great idea for a theme, let me know. The next jam starts as soon as this one ends.
