Here is every Canadian team’s playoff run since 1994, the year after the cup was hoisted by a Canadian team, the Montreal Canadiens.

The last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup, it was the Canadiens in 1993. The very next year, the Canucks lost in Game 7. That team was the first team I ever loved, the one that got away.

Looking at this data viz by Graeme Bruce, which charts the playoff achievements of each Canadian team since that last Cup, I can't help but think it was the Canucks who cursed the country.
